Guidance and Counseling

While the majority of the students pursuing the M.Ed. in Guidance and Counseling desire to work in the school setting there is a growing number of persons who are choosing to work in different settings where they can work with children and adolescents. These include agency work (e.g. DHS, youth and family services, mental health), private practice, youth ministry, etc. Currently the number of available job openings exceeds the number of qualified applicants. It is anticipated that this will continue to be true for the immediate future as there are a large number of school counselors who are approaching retirement. This appears to be true nationally as well as in Oklahoma.

Instructional Media

The Master of Education in Instructional Media will prepare both library information and technology professionals. The Library Information option is closely aligned with State Department of Education requirements for the K-12 school library media specialist teaching certificate. Most people in the Library Information option choose to work as school librarians or technology teachers in the common schools.

The option in Applied Technology is intended to provide more in-depth training in technology. Education professionals wanting to work as technology coordinators and those wanting to work as technology teachers will find this program helpful.
