Chi Sigma Iota: Upsilon Chi Omega Chapter
Setting The Pace For The Future Of Counseling...............
What is Chi Sigma Iota, International?
Chi Sigma Iota is a rapidly growing International Counseling Academic and Professional Honor Society that has invited over 16, 000 individuals and 160 chapters to memberships since its formation in January of 1985. CSI was established in order to create a link between students, educators, practitioners and supervisors in various counseling settings. The objective of CSI, as stated in the Society's By-laws, is "...to promote scholarship, research, professionalism and excellence in counseling, and to recognize high attainment in the pursuit of academic and clinical excellence in the field of counseling."
What are the benefits of membership?
- Professionalism. CSI values high standards in the relatively young and emerging field of counseling. Along with credentialing, standards, and graduate school accreditation, CSI is striving to define and unify the counseling professions.
- Newsletter. The CSI Newsletter is distributed four times a year to all CSI members, and is the main communication for informing members of current events within the Society and within the counseling profession. Its content represents enthusiasm for academic and professional excellence in counseling.
- Annual conventions. During the Spring of each year, CSI meets concurrently wit the American Counseling Association (ACA) The annual meeting serves as an ideal time to network with other counseling professional and students, attend exciting workshops, and recognize outstanding academic and professional achievement. CSI also provides leadership training ad "Scholars Across the Generations" programs at the convention.
- Awards. CSI chapters and members are always encouraged to strive for excellence and high achievement. Annual awards and fellowships are given during conventions to further compel students, faculty, and professionals to work for outstanding scholarship and professionalism.
The Upsilon Chi Omega Chapter accepts applications for membership twice a year. Applications will be accepted approximately during the 5th and 6th week of both the Fall or Spring semesters. Formal induction into Chi Sigma Iota occurs during the Spring semester at a time set by the executive committee. One way Chi Sigma Iota promotes professionalism is by having guest speakers at a fall and spring meeting. Continuing Education credits are provided for L.P.C.'s and other counselors. Chi Sigma Iota also sponsors informal get-togethers with refreshments at the beginning of the school year for all counselor education students.
Chi Sigma Iota has established a scholarship fund. It is name in honor of Dr. Gladys's Dronberger a retired faculty member who influenced so many students in the field of counseling. We are still in the process of endowing this fund so that in the future we will be able to utilize the earnings from the fund to award scholarships.
