The psychology department offers a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, as well as graduate degrees in Counseling Psychology, Experimental Psychology,
General Psychology, and School Psychology.
The
department also offers a certification program for Psychometry/Educational
Diagnostics.
BA in Psychology
The BA
in Psychology major program prepares students to pursue a variety of careers,
graduate degrees, or post-graduate training in occupations such as data
analysis, project management, counseling, school psychology, science,
advertising, law enforcement, social work, customer service, military service,
human relations, health care, and other people related fields.
Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology
The Master's Degree program in Counseling Psychology prepares students for licensure at the master's level and eventual employment in counseling centers, community mental health facilities, and private practice providing services to people of all ages.
Completion of the Counseling Psychology degree provides the classroom requirements for licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or a Licensed Behavioral Practitioner (LBP). A master's degree also prepares the student for work as a psychological technician under the supervision of a Licensed Psychologist and with approval of the Oklahoma Licensing Board. Professional organizations for master's level counseling include the North
American Association of Master's in Psychology (NAMP) and the American Counseling Association (ACA).
Master's Degree in Experimental Psychology
The
Master's Degree program in Experimental Psychology prepares students for the
pursuit of advanced degrees in psychology or for other professional careers.
Students prepare for doctoral-level work with coursework in experimental design,
multivariate statistics, and psychological science. The Experimental Psychology
option is flexible for compatibility with diverse student goals. The program
incorporates wide-ranging choice in elective coursework, thus, students may
align the degree with their specialties of interest. The M.A. in Experimental
Psychology is best suited to students who wish to pursue goals in
science-related and scientist-practitioner endeavors.
Master's Degree in General Psychology
The Master's Degree in General Psychology
would be ideal for the student who desires a graduate degree for career
advancement in the business world, or for the student who already has a master’s
degree but is returning to take additional hours for certification or licensure
in the mental health or school services fields. This would also be appropriate
for those who wish to obtain more advanced knowledge in psychology but may not want to become a counselor or complete a thesis.
UCO’s
Graduate School Psychology Program is a NASP accredited Program. Students may
pursue the MA in School Psychology or the Post-Graduate Advanced Graduate
Studies in School Psychology track. Both tracks lead to the Certificate of
Advanced Studies in School Psychology and NCSP (National Certification in School
Psychology).

certification and eventual employment as school psychologists in schools and
other agencies. Students are trained to provide school psychological services
such as assessment, intervention planning, counseling, and consultation.
Certificate Program in School Psychology
The Certificate Program in School Psychology prepares students for state and national certification and employment as school psychologists in schools and other agencies. This program is designed for students who hold a master's degree in a related field.
Certificate Program in School Psychometry
The Certificate Program in School Psychometry prepares students for state certification as psychometrist/educational diagnostician and for employment in schools and other agencies.
Post-Graduate Advanced Graduate Studies in School Psychology
The
Certificate Program in School Psychology prepares students for state and
national certification and employment as school psychologists in schools and
other agencies. This program is designed for students who hold a master's degree
in a related field.
