Teaching Careers

The Department of Professional Teacher Education assists other education programs at UCO in preparing teachers for certification and/or graduation through the Undergraduate Professional Sequence courses and field experiences. The Sequence provides the basic teaching foundation for all teacher education programs at the undergraduate level. Teaching careers look brighter and more attractive now than at any time in the last century. There is a strong demand for teachers of high quality and there are teacher shortages in several parts of the country.

 

Advanced Professional Studies

Certification and/or graduation from an education program at the University of Central Oklahoma provides a basis for pursuit of a series of professional areas and make it possible for teachers to continue graduate studies in a variety of areas in education such as reading specialists, , library media specialists, administration and counseling.

 

Additional Professional Careers

In addition, teacher education is an excellent background for many education-related or human-service positions in business and industry, as well as other people centered careers.

 

Masters of Education in Secondary Education

The Department of Professional Teacher Education offers opportunities for students to study a specific curricular area within an individually guided plan of study which is designed to help in the pursuit of his/her unique professional aspirations, plans, and career goals. The M.Ed. in Secondary Education provides an academic experience at the master teacher level and/or a strong basis for the pursuit of doctoral studies in multiple areas In addition, professional growth in continuing education is provided to candidates in a variety of areas which have led to promotions within the business sector and related job opportunities in higher education.

The Teacher Job Fair have over 20 local and out-of state school districts registered to assist future teacher candidates certification areas and also, Speech and Language Pathology, School Nurses, School Counselors, School Psychologists, School Psychometrics, Library Media Specialists and Principals.
