Professional Teacher Education Undergraduate Sequence

Masters of Education in Secondary Education

  1. What's should I do to start the masters of Secondary Education?
  2. Will I be able to get my Oklahoma teaching certificate at the same time as I am getting my masters degree?
     

Professional Teacher Education Undergraduate Sequence

  1. Whom do I see for advisement regarding the requirements for completion of a bachelor's degree in a teacher education area?
    Direct advisement regarding the requirements for the completion of a bachelor's degree in teacher education is provided in the Academic Advisement Center, UC 121, 974-3338. 
     
  2. If I already have a bachelor's degree that is not in teaching, whom should I see if I am interested in obtaining teacher certification?
    Mrs. Karen Davis, Residency and Certification Coordinator, provides teacher certification advisement to individuals holding non-teaching bachelor's degrees who are seeking teacher certification. His office is located in Education 207, 974-5710.
     
  3. If I completed courses in the professional sequence at another university or several years ago at UCO, what do I need to complete in regard to the education portfolio?
    For courses in the professional sequence, you will need to see Dr. Diane Jackson, Chair, Professional Teacher Education Department, regarding portfolio requirements for courses completed at other universities or completed previously at UCO. For portfolio requirements within the student's major area, the respective department chair would need to be consulted. 
     
  4. What is the administrative sequence in regard to teacher education programs at the University of Central Oklahoma?
    Department chairs deal directly with courses within their department. Dr. Bill Pink serves as the Director of Teacher Education Services (ED 231A, 974-5681). Dr. James Machell is the Director of Teacher Education and the Dean of the College of Education (ED 213, 974-5701).
     
  5. If I have questions about field experiences or student teaching, whom should I contact?
    Ms. Joyce Anderson, the Director of Field Experiences at the University of Central Oklahoma, can answer any questions regarding field experiences or student teaching. Her office is located in the Teacher Education Services Office, ED 207, 974-5710.
     
  6. If I do not know where to go to obtain answers to my questions regarding teacher education, where should I begin?
    For general information regarding teacher education or for guidance regarding the best contact person teacher education questions, the best place to begin would be the Teacher Education Services Office, ED 207, 974-5710.

Masters of Education in Secondary Education

  1. What's should I do to start the masters of Secondary Education?

    1. You must hold a bachelor's degree before you can begin your
    graduate studies.

    2. Make application for graduate study through the office of the Dean of the College of Graduate Studies and Research, located in the Nigh University Center, Room # 404, extension 3341

    3. Make an appointment with Dr. Bryan Duke for advisement, application to Program, and recommendation for graduate study. Dr. Green's office in the Chamber's Library, room #315, extension 5529, email: bduke@ucok.edu
    Be sure to bring the following with you to your conference:
    i. "Recommendation for Admission to the Graduate College"
    ii. Current Transcript
    iii. Copy of Teaching Certificate


     
  2. Will I be able to get my Oklahoma teaching certificate at the same time as I am getting my masters degree?

    The teaching credential is a separate issue from obtaining a master's degree. You can contact one of the following to obtain information on the two (2) paths to qualifying for an Oklahoma teaching credential.

    1. To be endorsed and warrantied by UCO, you will need to complete the professional program in your area. For advisement and additional information contact: Mrs. Karen Davis, Residency and Certification Coordinator, located in the Education Building room #207, extension 5710, email: kdavis49@ucok.edu.
    2. To obtain an alternative certification contact the Oklahoma
    State Department of Education, Professional Standards, located in the Oliver Hodge Building, room #212, phone# 521-3337.
