A laptop in the classroom is a great way to integrate technology into your
teaching. You can enhance your lectures with PowerPoint presentations,
access online resources, view multimedia clips, and much more!
ITC laptops are secured to multimedia cart. They all have a 3.5" floppy drive, a DVD-ROM/CD-ROM
drive, an external Iomega Zip 250MB drive, and a USB port specially designated
and easily accessible for your USB Flash drive. The laptops run Windows XP OS
and all have the full Microsoft Office 2003 suite. Other software programs
installed include Adobe Acrobat Reader, Real Player, QuickTime Player, etc.
(Please do not install any software on any ITC laptop without first getting
approval. Contact Rod Edwards with questions.)
A NOTE ABOUT STORAGE
MEDIA -- CEPS Technology Services recommends using 250MB Zip disks or a USB
Flash Drive as your data storage medium between home, office, and the classroom
or computer lab. This recommendation is based on reliability. CD-Rs
can be problematic because CD-ROM drives cannot always read a CD-R that has been burned on
another computer. (If you are using CD-Rs to store your files, please test your
CD-R in advance of your class time in the ITC). Floppy disks, besides having
very limited storage capacity, are considered undependable because the stored data is easily damaged or corrupted
by a variety a factors (heat, moisture, dust, dirt, smoke, vibrations, and
magnetic fields which can be generated by stereo speakers, headphones,
televisions, telephones, radios, and even some hand tools!)
