History
The Student Resource Center (SRC) came into being in March of 1998. The originating request was presented to the Student Technology Fee (STF) Committee by the College of Education’s Curriculum and Instructional Education Department. Students from this department had voiced their need for a work area where they could construct craft projects which were class requirements for their Elementary Education degree. The STF Committee agreed and the SRC was
created!
The initial funding for the Student Resource Center was $12,000, which covered all the initial setup costs as well as the first year’s cost of operation. Since then, in addition to funding the cost of operation, the SRC has also enjoyed an ongoing yearly endowment
from the STF Committee for additional resources. This money is generally used to
augment the SRC’s Ellison and Accu-Cut die collection. On a case-by-case basis, the STF Committee also determines whether or not to approve additional funding to cover the replacement costs of equipment which has become obsolete or damaged. In an effort to be make the SRC more fiscally independent, the STF Committee has implemented a punch card system so that individual patrons help pay for their own consumable supplies.
Over the years, the Student Resource Center has continued to grow and to expand its patron base. It is now used by students and faculty from all over the University for a variety of academic-related projects and activities
as well as extracurricular ones. Please come by and see us.
